Integrity is hard, but makes life easy
As I was thinking about the topic of integrity this week, I received a newsletter from Mark Bouman, a missionary to Cambodia. He had a pretty profound statement in his newsletter that I think relates directly to integrity.
If you’re only willing to do what’s easy, life will be hard. If you’re willing to dowhat’s hard, life will be easy.” Doinghard things, going the extra mile, makingthings right in relationships, keepingcommitments even when no oneis looking, these are the things that
make us who we are…
Mark Bouman
Integrity is being true to who you are, and always doing the right thing, even if it’s not the easiest route. It’s providing the value your customers paid you for even if it costs you more than you originally thought to deliver. It’s tidying up your code before you commit it so that your coworkers don’t have to inherit a mess. It means being consistent to a methodology that you’ve committed to even when everyone around you is getting by with under-achieving.
Integrity… It’s a hard thing to commit to, but if you do, life becomes a whole lot easier.
Integrity makes you real.
